Let's break down how to connect your HP DeskJet 2700/4100 printer to your Wi-Fi, using simple steps:
Before You Start:
What you need: A computer or phone (Android or iPhone), internet access, and your printer.
Check everything's on: Make sure your router, computer/phone, and printer are all turned on.
Printer Prep: Put paper in the printer and install the ink cartridges.
Method 1: Using the HP Smart App (Easiest)
This is the recommended way to connect. Download the HP Smart app on your phone or computer.
Android Phone:
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Get the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com.
On the printer, press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons for 3 seconds. The Power button will blink for about 10 seconds, and the Wireless light will blink.
Open the HP Smart app. Tap the plus sign (+) and choose your printer (it will have "Setup" in the name). Enter your Wi-Fi password.
When the Wireless light on the printer is solid blue, you're connected!
iPhone:
Turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Get the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com.
On the printer, press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons for 3 seconds. The Power button will blink for about 10 seconds, and the Wireless light will blink.
Open the HP Smart app. Tap the plus sign (+) to add your printer. Choose your HP DeskJet 2700/4100 series and follow the instructions.
When the Wireless light on the printer is solid blue, you're connected!
Windows 10 Computer:
Turn on the printer. Get the HP Smart app from the Microsoft Store.
On the printer, press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons for 3 seconds. The Power button will blink for about 10 seconds, and the Wireless light will blink.
Open the HP Smart app. Click the plus sign (+) and choose your printer. Enter your Wi-Fi password.
When the Wireless light on the printer is solid blue, you're connected! Click Continue > Exit Setup.
Mac Computer:
Turn on the printer. Get the HP Smart app from the App Store.
On the printer, press and hold the Cancel and Wireless buttons for 3 seconds. The Power button will blink for about 10 seconds, and the Wireless light will blink.
Open the HP Smart app. Click the plus sign (+) and choose your printer. Enter your Wi-Fi password.
When the Wireless light on the printer is solid blue, you're connected! Click Continue > Exit Setup.
Method 2: Using WPS (If your router has a WPS button)
Turn on the printer.
Find the WPS button on your router (but don't press it yet).
On the printer, press and hold the Wireless button for 3 seconds until it blinks.
Now, press and hold the WPS button on your router for 3-5 seconds.
If the Wireless light on the printer turns solid blue, you're connected!
Method 3: Using Wi-Fi Direct (Less Common)
Print a Wi-Fi Direct Help page: Press the Information and Resume buttons at the same time.
Turn on Wi-Fi Direct on the printer: Press the Information, Wireless, and Resume buttons together.
On your computer, go to your Wi-Fi settings. Look for your printer's name (like HP=DIRECT<something>).
Connect to the printer's Wi-Fi. Follow the instructions on your computer to finish the connection. If you don't see the printer, try turning your computer's Wi-Fi off and on again.
